Emmer eyeing Speaker of the House nomination
Minnesota Representative Tom Emmer is reportedly “making calls” and is pursuing a run for the vacant Speaker of the House seat. According to Jake Sherman of NBC News Emmer reportedly told members of the House Republican Conference that he’d seek the nomination.
Emmer is pursuing the Speaker of the House position after Ohio Representative Jim Jordan failed for a third time to receive the amount of votes needed to take the Speaker position, killing his chances at election. If Emmer officially throws his hat into the ring he would become the new favorite to land the Speaker of the House Position.
Representative Emmer has held the Minnesota 6th District seat in the United States House of Representative since 2015. Prior to the U.S. House of Representatives Emmer was also a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives representing district 19B from 2005 to 2011. Emmer assumed the House Majority Whip back in January of 2023.
If elected as the Speaker of the House this would be a historic event for the State of Minnesota because there has never been a Speaker of the House from Minnesota.
