Work will be starting on a $12 million expansion project at Essentia Health-Fosston, as the provider is looking to expand their emergency department. Essentia Health-Fosson Administrator Mike Curtis explains what this project will accomplish.

Curtis says that this project is coming at the right time, as healthcare is always evolving, and the needs are there.

As for a timeline for the project, Curtis says the hope is for it to be completed by the summer of 2027.

R&J News contacted the City of Fosston for their reaction to the project, as the city remains in a dispute with Essentia Health. The City of Fosston Responded with the following:

“The city of Fosston acknowledges the need for improvements to the current emergency facilities at the Fosston Hospital. We recognized this as early as 2009 when we incorporated the requirement for such an improvement project to occur as part of the 2009 affiliation agreement. It is unfortunate that it has taken 17 years and litigation on other broken promises of the contract for Essentia to finally put this plan into action. It should be further noted that the City is still engaged in litigation related to ending the affiliation agreement with Essentia Health. The city remains steadfast in its efforts to ensure that this community has access to the type of care it deserves and needs.”
