The Ada A’s secured their spot in the Minnesota Class C Amateur Baseball State Tournament with a 3-1 win over the Nimrod Gnats. The A’s would lead from their first time up to bat with a 2-out RBI single from Sunny Resnick providing a 1-0 lead after the first inning. The A’s couldn’t always secure the clutch hit for most the remainder of the game as they stranded 10 base runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded twice to end an inning. Despite that, the pitching and defense of the A’s never really allowed the Gnat offense to get started. After the Gnats had base hits from two of the first three batters in the game the A’s defense retired 17 of the next 18 batters to keep their 1-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. The A’s then rediscovered the clutch hitting in the final two times at bat with another 2-out RBI from Sunny Resnick in the 7th and a 2-out Jeff Petrick double followed by a Jake Osowski RBI single in the 8th inning to extend the lead to 3-0 going into the 9th inning. After only mustering three hits and not having a baserunner past second base over the first eight innings, the Gnat offense collected four hits and their only run in the 9th before a flyout to centerfield ended the game.

The Ada A’s will be the #1 seed from Region 4C, while the Nimrod Gnats will face the Fosston Trash Pandas on Sunday in an elimination game, with the winner being the Region 4C #2 seed. Nimrod defeated Fosston 11-0 in the 4C opening round on August 8th. The Trash Pandas fought their way back through the elimination bracket and defeated Hawley 5-4 on Saturday to advance to the State Qualifier game.
