Thief River Falls, MN — The Fertile-Beltrami Falcons beat the Red Lake Warriors on Friday night 92-67 to become the Section 8A Boys Basketball Champions and earned a trip to the State Tournament for the first time since 2001.
Fertile-Beltrami was in control of the scoreboard the entire game. The early points went back and forth in the first half but once Fertile-Beltrami took an 11-9 lead they never trailed after that. The Falcons offense poured it on all night long, seeing all five starters score in double figures. Fertile-Beltrami defensively was stout, as they made life tough all night long for Red Lake not allowing them to get clean, easy shots off and holding Red Lake to their second lowest scoring output of the season. Red Lake was able to trim the deficit to 14 points at one point in the second half, but the Falcons defense was relentless in making the night tough and their offense was sharp all night long sticking to the slow it down style of offense. Fertile-Beltrami lead at halftime 46-27, and would win the game by 25 points 92-67.
Fertile-Beltrami will take a 25-6 overall record into the State Class A Boys Basketball Tournament. For Red Lake, their season comes to an end with an overall record of 22-8.
