8A-E Mahnomen-Waubun vs Red Lake

The Red Lake Warriors used a huge performance for Gerald Kingbird Jr to overcome a 17 point deficit and defeat the Mahnomen Waubun Thunderbirds 84-79 to win the East half of section 8A. The Thunderbirds were stellar on defense for the majority of the game limiting the Warriors shots, and then controlling the tempo and making shots to build the double digit lead. The THunderbirds led for the majority of the game, and for the majority of the game it was a double digit lead. As time wound down in the 2nd half Red Lake began chipping away with Gerald Kingbird Jr leading the way. Red Lake would take their first lead with :59 seconds remaining at 78-77. THe warriors would then get a steal and a layup and some free throws to built the lead to 5. as the clock was about the expire a technical was given toe Red Lake and .04 seconds were put back on the clock. The Thunderbirds would miss the technical shots and Red Lake woud hold on for the win. Red Lake is now 22-7 and will now play Fertile Beltrami for the Section 8A title. Mahnomen Waubun ends at 11-18 graduating 6 seniors.
