Recap
8A Play-in #9 Northome-Kelliher vs #8 Clearbrook-Gonvick
Clearbrook, MN — The Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears defeated the Kelliher/Northome Mustangs in the Section 8A Boys Basketball Pig Tail Round on Monday night to advance to the next round.
The first half was quite literally evenly matched, both teams had seven turnovers, team fouls were off by just one, and both teams traded buckets with the largest lead being five points and that was the halftime deficit 39-34, with Kelliher/Northome holding the advantage. The second half was a much different story that favored Clearbrook-Gonvick. The Bears got some help from the Mustangs who missed 18 second half free throws but also halftime scorer, Kelliher/Northome Sophomore Billy Jack Schoenborn, posted four of the only 15 second half Kelliher/Northome points. Mostly in part because of the Bears second half defensive strategy. The Bears outscored the Mustangs 37-15 in the second half and won the game 71-54.
With the win, Clearbrook-Gonvick will now play the Fosston Greyhounds in the next round of the Section 8A Boys Basketball Tournament on Thursday in Fosston.
