Cass Lake, MN — The Ada-Borup-West Cougars outlasted the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers on Thursday night in a battle of two top 10 ranked teams in Class A Basketball with a 66-64 win.

Turnovers were an issue in the first half for Ada-Borup-West, especially against a team like Cass Lake-Bena that plays so fast and when they get extra possessions they’re capable of putting up a lot of points. The Panthers were in control of the game for most of the night with leads that fluctuated anywhere from four to as much as 13 points. But the Cougars, who have so much experience back again this year, knew they couldn’t get it all back and once and continued to chip away and eventually force the game to go into overtime. After some early baskets by the Cougars in the extra frame to take the lead and answers from Cass Lake-Bena, it was the Panthers making a crucial mistake with just 35 seconds to spare. A 10 second violation walking the basketball back up the floor after a miss, gave the Cougars the final possession. In the final seconds, it was Lance Kritzberger rebounding a Mason Larson miss and banking in the game winner as time expired and gave the Cougars the two point win.

The win now puts Ada-Borup-West at 3-0 for the season and they will be at home Friday versus Lake Park-Audubon. The loss for Cass Lake-Bena was the Panthers first game of the season so they start the new basketball campaign 0-1.
