It came down to a field goal for the 2nd consecutive game and Tanner Stech delivered once again giving the Mahnomen Waubun Thunderbirds a 16-14 win over the Ada Borup-West Cougars for the section 8A championship.  The Thunderbirds were able to put together a 16 play drive that would eat up almost the entire 1st quarter which resulted in a Blake McMullen touchdown and the Thunderbirds would lead 6-0 which would hold until late in the 2nd quarter when Mahnomen Waubun would get a 75 yard pick six to go into the halftime mark leading 13-0.  After a stale mate of the 3rd quarter the Cougars would turn it on in the 4th quarter scoring 14 unanswered point to take the lead with only 3:30 remaining.  Mahnomen Waubun would get the ball and drive all the wat down to the 6 yard line of the Cougars and with 17 seconds remaining and a 4th a 2 the Thunderbirds would opt for the 19 yard field goal in which Tanner Stech would drill and the Thunderbirds would go on for the win.  Mahnomen Waubun is now 10-0 and will play in the state playoffs while Ada Borup-West ends at 9-2 and graduates 9 seniors.
