FB Barnesville at Hawley

Barnesville rushed for 401 yards on their way to a 46-21 victory at Hawley Friday in the annual Battle For Lee’s Paddle.

Major Ness ran 11 times for 172 yards, including an 84 yard touchdown in the third quarter for the Trojans.  Gannon Bolgrean rushed 10 times for 121 yards and a score and teammate Connor Klemin had 39 yards on 7 carries and three touchdowns.

After a scoreless first quarter, Barnesville got on the board on a 3 yard run by Klemin.  Bolgrean ran for a 2 point conversion to put the Trojans up 8-0.  Following a short punt, the Trojans drove 41 yards in 3 plays for their second TD.  Bolgrean scoring from 2 yards out and then passed to Jack Maesse for the PAT to make it 16-0.

Hawley responded with a 6 play, 54 yard drive to get on the scoreboard.  Quarterback Noah Nelson scoring from 2 yards out.  Nico Lomanto’s PAT cut Barnesville’s lead to 16-7.

Before halftime, Klemin scored again on a 2 yard run, plus the 2 point PAT, to give the Trojans a 24-7 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Barnesville got on the board as Ness broke through and sprinted 84 yards for a score. Elias Cox scored the PAT to make it 32-7.  On the Trojans’ next possession, Cox scored on a 3 yard TD run to make the score 38-7.  Hawley came back when Nelson scored from a yard out to make the score 38-13 after three quarters.

Klemin scored his third TD of the day on a one yard run in the fourth quarter.  When Jacob Strand ran for the PAT, the Barnesville lead was 46-13.  Hawley scored a touchdown with 4:22 to play when Brody Hadley threw a 3 yard touchdown pass to Charlie Steer…then passed to Steer again for the PAT, making the final score 46-21 in Barnesville’s favor.

Barnesville had 440 yards total offense (401 on the ground, 39 passing) to Hawley’s 246 (100 rushing, 146 passing).    Hawley’s Noah Nelson ran 13 times for 72 yards and completed 9 of 24 passes for 118 yards with one interception.

Barnesville (4-0, 3-0 in Section 8AA) plays at Warroad next Thursday.  Hawley (2-2, 2-1) travels to Park Rapids Area next Friday.
