Barnesville vs. Pelican Rapids

The Barnesville Trojans defeated the Pelican Rapids Vikings 47-45 and will advance to the 8AA Section Championship game on Friday night. The first half was a feeling-out process for both teams as they looked to find their rhythm. The Trojans built a seven-point lead with 3:30 remaining the the half before the Vikings closed on an 11-5 run and trailed at halftime 23-22. The Trojans got a scoring punch to start the second half with Abby John making three 3-pointers and an “and-one” basket for a solo 12 point scoring burst and an eight point Trojan lead that eventually peaked at a dozen points with a 39-27 score with 11:46 remaining. Then it was time for the Vikings to get their own scoring burst as Kamryn Kirkwood scored 14 consecutive points for the Vikings that made the score 47-43 with a minute to go. The Vikings would steal the inbounds pass and score to trail by two-points with 42 seconds left with their defense then forcing a stop with six seconds remaining on the clock. After a timeout, and needing to go the length of the court the Vikings were able to get a three-point shot off as the buzz rang, but were unable to get the shot to fall in and the Trojans prevailed 47-45.
