Blackduck 38 at Win-E-Mac 53
ERSKINE, MN – The #8 Win-E-Mac Patriots kicked off the Section 8A playoffs with a thrilling 53-38 win over the #9 Blackduck Drakes on Tuesday evening.
The Patriots faced the Drakes twelve days prior in the regular season and won 45-41. In the rematch, Win-E-Mac was able to put the peddle to the metal in the second half, outscoring Blackduck, 37-22. Eight Patriots scored the team’s first 16 points.
Lauren Kaupang led the Patriots in scoring with 11 points, but played through foul trouble, picking up three fouls in the first half and her fourth halfway through the second half.
The Patriots got a serious jolt from the bench with Bret DuChamp and Ava Howard combining for 19 points. DuChamp had a pair of three point shots made that helped fuel the Patriots run in the second half. Howard, a lockdown defender, was aggressive in attacking the basket, scoring nine points and getting to the free throw line.
Drakes sophomore Marissa Mills led the team in scoring off the bench with 11 points. Freshman Aunicka Sundvall also scored nine points for Blackduck in the loss.
Win-E-Mac will face against the #1 Kelliher/Northome Mustangs on Thursday.
