Carrington 45 at Thompson 15

Logan Weninger ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns and McKade Zink returned an interception 72 yards for a touchdown as Carrington defeated Thompson 45-15 Friday night in Thompson.  It was the Cardinals’ first win over Thompson in five tries.

Zink’s pick-six midway through the first quarter gave Carrington a 6-0 lead.  Later in the quarter, quarterback Josh Bickett scored on a one yard run.  Weninger ran for the two point conversion to give the Cardinals a 14-0 lead after one quarter.

Weninger scored on a 38 yard run early in the second quarter, plus the two point conversion, to boost Carrington’s lead to 22-0.   Thompson got on the board after a 12 play, 75 yard drive that took 5:55 when Drew Overby threw a seven yard TD pas to Karter Peterson.  Josh Juve’s PAT made it 22-7.

Weninger scored his second touchdown of the day on a 21 yard run. With Bickett’s two point conversion, the Cardinals were up 30-7 with 1:59 to go in the half.  But Thompson had time to score again as Brody Gibson found the end zone from 35 yards out.  A two point pass from Overby to Peterson made the score 30-15 at the half.

In the third quarter, Carrington boosted their lead on Corbin Clifton’s five yard run.  The two point conversion made it 38-15 after three.  The Cardinals finished the scoring in the fourth quarter as Josh Bickett threw a seven yard touchdown pass to his cousin, Ryder Bickett.  A kicked extra point made the final 45-15.

Weninger carried 14 times for 119 yards with Clifton gaining 93 yards on just five carries.

Thompson’s Josh Juve (joovie) ran 20 times for 107 yards, with Overby completing nine of 27 passes for 107 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Carrington (3-1) hosts Grafton next week.  Thompson (1-3) is at Rugby next week.
