Thief River Falls, MN — The Kelliher/Northome Mustangs beat the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers on Saturday 73-69 to advance to the Section 8A East Sub-Section Championship Game.

The first half featured a large amount of fouls and free throws resulting in both team having players in foul trouble and being forced to navigate around that. Otherwise the first half was back and forth, Kelliher/Northome stretched their lead to 10 at one point but the fast moving Cass Lake-Bena Panthers quickly squashed that and was down by just three points 36-33.

The second half saw both teams go back and forth and really was everything you wanted in a playoff basketball game with high intensity action and energy. It was 55-51 Kelliher/Northome at the 9:35 mark and despite efforts from Cass Lake-Bena, they never trailed after that and would win by four 73-69.

With the win Kelliher/Northome will now face off against the Fosston Greyhounds in the East Sub-Section Championship next Wednesday. For Cass Lake-Bena, their season comes to an end with an overall record of 21-7.
