Central Cass 39, Northern Cass 0

Central Cass’ offense eventually wore down the Northern Cass defense as the Squirrels defeated the Jaguars 39-0 Friday night at Northern Cass.

Twice in the first half, Central Cass drives were stopped by Matthew Hoppe interceptions and on two other occasions, the Squirrels had to settle for Carter Vrchota field goals (both from 33 yards).

But with 4:21 to play in the second quarter, Northern Cass quarterback Julian Leitchtenberg fumbled and Central Cass recovered at the Jaguar 22.  Five plays later, Isaac Wisnewski bulled in from a yard out for a touchdown.  A two point conversion gave the Squirrels a 14-0 lead with 3:04 to go in the half.

Then after the Jaguars went three and out, Central Cass drove 64 yards in seven plays for another touchdown; this one a 22 yard pass from Brayden Mitchell to Cole Holzer to make it 21-0 with 22.2 seconds left in the half.

In the third quarter, Central Cass got another Mitchell touchdown pass–11 yards to Jacob Thompson. Then the Squirrel defense tackled Hoppe in the end zone for a safety to make it 30-0.  Following the free kick, Wisnewski scored his second touchdown of the day on a 27 yard run, making it 36-0 after three quarters.

Backup kicker Dillan Schmidt kicked a 33 yard field goal in the fourth quarter to make the final score 39-0 for Central Cass.

Mitchell completed 20 of 33 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns for Central Cass (2-1).

Hoppe rushed ten times for 61 yards for Northern Cass (0-3).

Next week, Central Cass hosts Lisbon, while Northern Cass hosts Hillsboro/Central Valley.
