Class 9-Player State Championship- Fertile-Beltrami vs Hills-Beaver Creek
Minneapolis, MN — The Fertile-Beltrami Falcons defeated the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots 20-8 on Saturday to capture the MN State 9-Player Football Championship.
The Patriots and the Falcons were teams that were capable of putting up 50 plus points in any game but Saturday, it was a defensive, grind it out style of game. Fertile-Beltrami would find themselves deep in the red zone multiple times in the first half, including a 4th and goal from the half yard line but were unable to punch it in. The first half would finish at a 0-0 tie.
In the second half Jonah Harstad would find the endzone giving Fertile-Beltrami a 6-0 lead with 5:50 to go in the third quarter. After another stop on defense, Fertile-Beltrami would strike again with a 3 yard rushing TD by Isaiah Wright making it 14-0 with 2:31 to go in the third. Then, Hills-Beaver Creek would take only :19 seconds as Jamin Metzger threw a 53 yard TD to James VandenBosch making it 14-8.
The only score in 4th quarter would be a 1 yard rushing TD by Jonah Harstad, his second of the game, making it a 20-8 Fertile-Beltrami lead and that would be the final score as Fertile-Beltrami wins the Minnesota State 9-Player Football Championship.
Fertile-Beltrami caps off their Championship Season with a 13-0 record.
