Cass Lake, MN — The Cass Lake-Bena Panthers defeated the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears 79-29 on Thursday night to advance to the Quarterfinals of the Section 8A Girls Basketball Tournament.
It was just a 14-10 Cass Lake-Bena lead with 10 minutes to play in the first half but the Panthers called a timely timeout and immediately ramped up the pressure forcing the Bears into 11 first half turnovers and outscored Clearbrook-Gonvick 25-3 the rest of the half to take a 39-13 halftime lead. The Panthers were in control the rest of the game and were victorious 79-29. In the second half, Panthers Senior Gabby Fineday became the first player in Cass Lake-Bena History to eclipse 3,000 career points.
Cass Lake-Bena is now 20-7 and will play in the 1:45 pm Quarterfinal Game at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls on Saturday. Clearbrook-Gonvick ends their season at 8-20 overall and the Bears graduate two Seniors, Allison LaVine and Aubrey Stoskopf
