Ulen, MN – The Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears moved to 3-1 on the season Friday night with a 40-18 victory over the NCE/U-H Titans.

The Bears struck quickly, taking the opening kickoff deep into Titan territory and capping a short drive in just over a minute with an 11-yard touchdown run by senior Dakota Erickson for a 6-0 lead. NCE/U-H responded right away with a 24-yard scoring run from Asher Flaten and a two-point conversion to go up 8-6.

The game turned in the second quarter, where Clearbrook-Gonvick’s offense took control. After an early score, the Bears reached the end zone on three of their next five possessions. Meanwhile, the Titans struggled to sustain drives, throwing two interceptions, punting twice, and having a touchdown wiped away by a holding penalty before turning it over on downs. The Bears carried a 26-8 lead into halftime.

Any hopes of a Titan rally were dashed on the opening play of the second half when they fumbled, giving C-G the ball at the 31. On the very next snap, Erickson found the end zone for his third touchdown, stretching the lead to 34-8 and putting the game firmly in the Bears’ hands.

Both teams would add a touchdown in the second half, and NCE/U-H tacked on a safety late to make the final score 40-18 in favor of Clearbrook-Gonvick.

With the win, the Bears improve to 3-1 and gear up for a key home matchup next week against Kittson County Central. The Titans, who have now dropped 12 straight regular-season games, will look to regroup when they host Ortonville.
