Crookston, MN — The Climax/Fisher Knights beat the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons 46-41 in the first. round of the Section 8A Girls Basketball Tournament on Thursday night.

Fertile-Beltrami had control of the score board for the entire first half. The Falcons even built a 10 point lead in the final stages of the half 28-18. The Knights scored four of the final five points to make it a single digit deficit at halftime 29-22.

In the second half, Climax/Fisher switched to a zone defense that gave the Fertile-Beltrami offense trouble. The Knights used that defense to go on a 13-4 run taking their first lead of the game 35-33 with nine minutes to go. Fertile-Beltrami was able to stay within striking distance, and even took the lead back once more with about five minutes left. Climax/Fisher would take the lead back for good with 2:16 to play and it was Sophomore Kinley Korynta putting the final nail in the coffin knocking down a left wing 3-pointer, her only basket of the game, to seal the victory 46-41.

Climax/Fisher improves to 17-10 on the year and will play the Kelliher/Northome Mustangs at noon inside Ralph Englestad Arena in Thief River Falls on Saturday in the Section 8A Girls Quarterfinals. Fertile-Beltrami ends their season at 18-9 and graduate five seniors.
