Reggie Winjum scored 6 of his game-high 23 points in overtime as Crookston defeated Climax-Fisher 62-57 Monday night in Climax.
Climax-Fisher led for most of the first half, but it was Crookston in front at halftime 29-28. The second half was a battle and was set up for a grandstand finish when the Knights’ Jace Motl scored to break a 50-all tie with 30 seconds to play. Then Winjum came back and scored with 17 seconds to play, tying the game at 52-all and forcing overtime.
Then with 2:10 remaining in the OT, Winjum scored to put the Pirates in front for good 56-54. Crookston’s Michael Deng added a basket to increase the lead to 58-54. Climax-Fisher’s Jaycer Davis missed 2 free throws, then the Knights’ Gabe Wentzel hit a 3 with 1:01 to play to make it a 58-57 point game.
At the other end, Crookston’s Hunter Nicholas scored on an offensive rebound to raise the lead to 3. Winjum would make 2 of 4 free throws in the final 25 seconds to clinch the victory.
Nicholas scored 14 points for Crookston (4-12), who snapped a 5 game losing streak.
Tyler Evitts scored 20 points to lead Climax-Fisher (3-15) with Ty Torrance adding 13.
