Devils Lake 67, Grafton 46

Grafton gave defending State Class A Champions Devils Lake a scare Tuesday night, but the Firebirds recovered to score a 67-46 victory in the Region 2 semifinals at Mayville State University.

Grafton’s Kate LeClerc hit a long three before the halftime buzzer to tie the score at 26.  But the Devils Lake defense continued to put pressure on the Spoilers, forcing a total of 31 turnovers and holding Grafton to 20 second half points.

Three players scored in double figures for the 3rd-ranked Firebirds (19-3): Claire Heilman with 16 (14 in the second half), Presley Brown 15 and Jolie Martinson 11.

LeClerc scored 15 to lead Grafton (9-14) with teammate Savannah Blackcloud adding 12.

Devils Lake will take on Carrington for the Region 2 Championship Thursday night at Mayville State. Grafton faces Thompson in the third place game…with a chance of reaching the State Tournament on the line.
