Devils Lake 3, Thompson 2 (21-25. 17-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-12)

Kinley Johnson had 17 kills, including 3 in the final set as Devils Lake rallied from a 2 set deficit to defeat Thompson in 5 sets Monday night in Thompson.

Thompson had won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-17.  The third set was close, with Devils Lake winning 25-23.  In the fourth set, the Firebirds led 13-5 and went on to win 25-20.  The fifth set was tied at 11, then Devils Lakes’ Sara Kraft had a tip for a kill, Mia Elsberger had a kill to make it 13-11 and a Thompson hitting error gave the Firebirds a 14-11 advantage and put them at match point.  A Kloey Huebner kill kept Thompson in the match at 14-12.  Then Kinley Johnson had a kill to give Devils Lake the victory.

Johnson had 17 kills and 3 blocks for Devils Lake (13-10, 2-5 Region 2), with Emma Hofstad adding 15 kills and a service ace for the Firebirds.

Andie Schwab had 15 kills and a block assist for Thompson (19-4, 5-3).  She also was honored for reaching the 1000 dig mark for her career.

Devils Lake had 51 kills, 4 blocks, 6 aces and 8 service errors.  Thompson had 55 kills, 10 blocks, 4 aces and 6 service errors.

Devils Lake plays at MayPort-CG on Thursday; Thompson hosts Langdon Area-Munich Friday.
