Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 26 vs. New London-Spicer 27

Minneapolis, MN — The New London-Spicer Wildcats and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels duked it out in one of the best high school football games you will ever see and it all came in the Class AAA Minnesota State Football Championship Game.

the game started with the Wildcats controlling the opening kickoff but in less then two minutes had to punt it to DGF. The Rebels would then go down and score for the first points of the game thanks to a 12 yard TD run from Minnesota Mr. Football Finalist Jordan Summers. The Wildcats would then respond with a five plus minute drive capped off by a 4 yard rushing Touchdown by Mason Delzer to tie the game 7-7. DGF then punted on their next possession giving New London-Spicer the chance to take their first lead of the afternoon. The Wildcats did just that thanks to excellent field position and a five yard touchdown pass from Blake Shultz to Mason Delzer. DGF answered back by dialing up the “Philly Special” from 10 yards out with a pass from Caleb Johnson to Quarterback turned receiver Owen Leach. The game was tied 14-14.

The second half started with a DGF interception and one yard quarterback sneak touchdown for New London-Spicer to make it 21-14. DGF would answer the blow with a quarterback sneak touchdown of their own but the point after attempt was no good and the score was 21-20 for the Wildcats. DGF forced a turnover on downs and would need to go 95 yards in hopes of capturing their first ever State Title. The Rebels ripped off an immediate 53 yards with a pass from Leach to Drew Sheeley. The Rebels then took some more time off the clock and capped off the drive with another rushing touchdown from Jordan Summers. But that wasn’t the end of it.

New London-Spicer had 24 seconds and no timeouts to try and pull off a miracle. The Wildcats would work their way to the DGF 48 yard line when the impossible happened. Sophomore Quarterback Blake Schultz heaved the football to Grant Paffrath who caught it at the 15 yard line and then before he got brought down, he lateralled the football to Brycen Christensen who would go into the end-zone effectively walking off on the DGF Rebels and winning 27-26.

New London-Spicer ends their season as the Minnesota State Class AAA Football Champions and the DGF Rebels end their year at 12-1.
