Recap

Bottineau 57, Northern Cass 56

Kyra Beckman’s basket with three seconds to play gave Bottineau a 57-56 victory over Northern Cass Saturday in the consolation round of the North Dakota Class A Girls State High School Basketball Tournament.

Northern Cass had taken a 39-24 lead in the third quarter, but Bottineau finished the quarter on a 14-0 run to cut the Jaguars’ lead to 39-38 after three.  The Stars kept that momentum into the fourth quarter to go in front 46-41.

Northern Cass fought back with Haidyn Crockett getting a steal and a layup to put the Jaguars in front 51-50.  After going back and forth, Crockett scored again to make it 56-55 in favor of the Jaguars in the final seconds.  Bottineau had a final possession and Beckman got the ball inside to score the winning basket, giving Northern Cass little time to respond.

Bottineau took advantage of 24 Northern Cass turnovers and also grabbed 22 offensive rebounds.  Because of those second and sometimes third chances, the Stars had more field goal attempts than Northern Cass: 63-43.

Crockett led Northern Cass (18-9) with 30 points; Josie Jensen added 12 points and nine rebounds.  The Jaguars will play Watford City in the seventh place game Saturday morning at 9:30…with audio only coverage on YourLiveEvent.com.

Beckman scored 25 points, plus 11 rebounds for Bottineau, with Kylie Simpson scoring 16.  The Stars (23-3) will play Shiloh Christian Saturday morning at 11:15 for the consolation championship.
