Recap

Abby Mikkelson’s three point basket with 16 seconds to play gave South Prairie-Max a 53-52 win over Thompson in the Class A Girls Basketball State Tournament semifinals Friday night at Minot State University. In the process, the Royals snapped Thompson’s 23 game unbeaten streak.
Thompson was behind the entire game, down by 13 late in the second quarter, before taking their first lead on an Addison Sage three-pointer with 4:56 to play. The Tommies would build that lead to 51-45 on a Brenna Martin layup with 2:28 to go.

The Royals went downcourt and Mikkelson hit a three from the top of the key to put South Prairie-Max back in the lead 53-52.
Thompson had one final chance, but Sage’s three pointer was off the mark and the Royals advanced to Saturday’s State Championship game against Devils Lake. Devils Lake edged Valley City 59-57 in Friday’s other semifinal.
