Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm at Hillsboro-Central Valley

The defense and special teams of Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm Thunder created opportunities for their offense early in the second half to widen their halftime lead on their way to a 28-7 victory over the Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros. The Thunder opened the game with a 4-play, 71-yard drive that ended on an Ivan Carruth 10-yard TD run for the quick 7-0 lead. It was a stalemate the remainder of the half with the Thunder defense holding the Burro offense in check while the Burro defense had two takeaways and stopped the Thunder on 4th down twice, including inside the 1-yard line in the final seconds of the first half to keep the score at 7-0 through halftime. On the Burros’ first drive of the second half Damien Carlson had a sliding, one-handed interception to get the ball back to the Thunder offense. The Thunder took advantage of the short field to score on a Joseph Kramlick TD catch before their Special Teams then caught the Burros off-guard with a successful onside-kick recovery followed shortly by a Carruth 32-yard TD run for the 21-0 lead. Looking to respond the Burros put together a scoring drive with Landon Olson scoring on the ground before Carruth put the game out of reach with his third TD run of the game to end the scoring and send EEK on their way to the 28-7 win.

Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm improves to 5-2 overall and hosts Central Cass next week. Hillsboro/Central Valley falls to 2-5 and will host Grafton next week.
