Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm vs Hillsboro/Central Valley

In the middle of a defensive battle, the Hillsboro/Central Valley Burro passing game led them to the game’s only score and eventual 6-0 victory over the Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm Thunder. It was a scoreless first half with the defenses both making key plays to keep the opposing offenses out of the endzone when deep in scoring territory. After the Burro defense got a 3-and-out to start the third quarter the offense converted a 3rd and long with 35-yard pass to Bryce Miller, followed by a 34-yard pass to Griffin Mitzel before Tyson Leshuk found Chase Haffley for a 10-yard Touchdown catch with 6:45 remaining in the third quarter. The Thunder were looking to respond with a drive of their own and were inside the Burro 30-yard line when Brody Rogenes forced the ball out of the running back’s hand and recovered the fumble to give the ball back to Hillsboro/Central Valley. After the teams traded possessions the Burros took over with 4:45 left in the game and looked to run out the clock. A Thunder penalty gave the Burros a key First-Down, but facing a 4th and one Hillsboro/Central Valley was stopped inches short of the first down and the Thunder took over on offense needing to drive 70-yards in 1:12 with no timeouts. The Thunder had a well run hurry-up offense that moved the ball into Burro territory at the 33-yard line when back to back pass breakups on third and fourth down stopped the Thunder drive and the Burros took over for a final kneel-down and the 6-0 victory.

Both teams now share 3-1 overall records and are both 1-1 in Region 1 play. Hillsboro/Central Valley will travel to face Northern Cass next week while Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm faces Sargent County.
