BBB Fertile-Beltrami at Ada-Borup-West

Ada-Borup-West overcame a fifteen point deficit in the second half to defeat Fertile-Beltrami for the first time in five seasons on Thursday night, 77-70.  Fertile-Beltrami used their size advantage through the first half and into the second half for a 35-27 halftime lead and 49-34 lead with 12:49 to play in the second half.  Ada-Borup-West adjusted to the Fertile-Beltrami defense to begin making shots in the second half, rebounding better — coupled with the Falcons foul trouble, not getting the offense they wanted with their inside strength and turnovers as Ada-Borup-West roared back with defensive pressure and  3-point field goals.  Fertile-Beltrami still led by six, 56-50 with 8:31 to play. Cadyn Dahl, Anders Tinjum and Mason Larson each made 3-point field goals to eventually tie the game at 58-58, 62-62 and claim the lead for good with another 3-point field goal with just over three minutes remaining.  The Cougars Dahl had six- 3-point field goals of the team’s nine for the game. Austin McRaven found space against the Falcons zone to penetrate and score or was finding assists to teammates to help get them over the top. All four Cougar players named were in double figures with 12 to 23 points each.    Fertile-Beltrami built their lead scoring against the full-court press, while also scoring inside the paint and keeping an eye on the Cougar shooters. Coach Neil Steffes of Fertile-Beltrami mentioned in the postgame of how they got away from their game and it cost them.  Ada-Borup-West attacked the basket to and hold the advantage at the free throw line with 25 attempts while Fertile-Beltrami shot five free throws. Prestin Hanson ended with a game high 27 points to lead Fertile-Beltrami’s four players in double figure scoring.    Ada-Borup-West is 10-4 overall. Fertile-Beltrami is now 9-3 on the season.
