Fertile-Beltrami at Ada-Borup-West   8A Baseball Playoffs

Fertile-Beltrami took advantage of 6 Ada-Borup-West errors to score an 8-1 victory over the Cougars in the opening round of the Section 8A baseball playoffs at Tony Sipe Field in Ada.

Falcons’ right-hander Kolby Hemmah pitched a 3-hitter for the victory (2-1), allowing one unearned run, with one walk and 3 strikeouts.  He retired the last 10 Ada-Borup-West hitters he faced.

Fertile-Beltrami’s first 3 batters had hits, to bring in 2 runs.  Then an error and a walk, 3 wild pitches and another error gave the Falcons a 4-0 first inning lead.

They added to that lead in the third inning on an rbi double by Caleb Sather, making it 5-0.

Ada-Borup-West got on the board in the fourth inning.  Connor Nelson was hit by a pitch, then Cadyn Dahl singled.  Both runners advanced on a throwing error after a fly out.  Then Nelson scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-1.  But the Cougars couldn’t get another run.

The Falcons put the issue beyond doubt in the seventh.  Steven Sather led off with a double, a single by Easton Petry plus an error brought in a run.  Then after another ABW error, Teegyn Johnson doubled to score 2 more runs, making the final 8-1.

Petry and Steven Sather were both 2 for 4 with an rbi for Fertile-Beltrami (9-6).  Petry scored 3 times, Sather twice.

Dahl went 2 for 3 for the Cougars (11-8), with fellow senior Grant Kuball getting the other ABW hit.  Ames Fassino (2-4) took the loss.  In 3 innings, he allowed 6 hits, 5 runs (2 earned), 2 walks, 3 strikeouts and 4 wild pitches.  Austin McCraven threw the final 4 innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 runs (0 earned), 0 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Fertile-Beltrami now faces Red Lake County Thursday at 12:30 in Red Lake Falls as the double elimination part of the Section 8A tournament begins.
