Fertile-Beltrami at Fosston

Fertile, MN — The Fertile-Beltrami Falcons capped off the regular season with a thrilling five-set victory over the Fosston Greyhounds on Thursday night.

The opening set belonged to Fosston. The Greyhounds used a six-point scoring run to turn an early battle into an 8-3 advantage and never looked back. Fertile-Beltrami spent the remainder of the set trying to chip away at the deficit but could not get any closer as Fosston claimed the opener 25-19.

That early momentum quickly shifted in favor of the Falcons. Fertile-Beltrami never trailed in the second set, controlling play from start to finish on the way to a 25-17 victory. The third set was much more competitive, with neither team able to create much separation, but the Falcons made the key plays late to edge the Greyhounds 25-23 and take a two-sets-to-one lead.

Facing elimination, Fosston responded with its strongest effort of the night in set four. The Greyhounds led from the opening serve to the final point, controlling the action throughout and earning a 25-17 win to force a winner-take-all fifth set.

Fosston appeared poised to complete the comeback in the decisive set, racing out to an 8-3 lead and carrying all the momentum. However, the Falcons answered with their best stretch of the match. Fertile-Beltrami rattled off seven consecutive points to turn a five-point deficit into a 10-8 advantage. The Greyhounds were unable to recover from the surge, and the Falcons closed out the match with a 15-11 victory in the fifth set.

With the win, Fertile-Beltrami finishes the regular season with a 20-7 overall record, while Fosston concludes its regular season at 17-10.
