Goodridge, MN – The Goodridge/Grygla Chargers stayed unbeaten with a dramatic 28-26 overtime win over Fertile-Beltrami on Friday night, moving to 3-0 on the season.

The Falcons opened with a methodical six-minute drive capped by a 1-yard sneak from QB Gavin Aakhus and a 2-point run for an 8-0 lead. The Chargers answered quickly, marching 55 yards before sophomore Shay Jacobson scored from four yards out and added the conversion to tie it 8-8. Defense took over from there, as the teams traded punts and stops to head into halftime deadlocked.

Goodridge/Grygla struck first in the second half, using up six and a half minutes before Jacobson found Gus Jones for a 3-yard touchdown. Fertile-Beltrami responded with a five-minute drive of their own, as Caleb Sather punched in the first of his three rushing scores to even it at 14-14 early in the fourth.

Midway through the quarter, the Falcons suffered a setback when Aakhus went down with an injury. Backup Braxton Paul stepped in and delivered a key throw to Drew Gullickson, keeping the drive alive before Sather scored again to put Fertile-Beltrami ahead 20-14 with just 41 seconds left.

The Chargers, aided by two Falcon penalties, moved quickly into the red zone. With seconds remaining, QB Landon Nordby connected with Jacobson in the corner of the end zone to tie the game, but the PAT was blocked, forcing overtime.

In the extra frame, Nordby hit Trustin Wiseth for a touchdown, and the Chargers added a trick-play 2-point conversion for a 28-20 lead. Fertile-Beltrami answered with Sather’s third touchdown, but their 2-point pass attempt fell incomplete, sealing the 28-26 Chargers victory.

Goodridge/Grygla (3-0) travels to Stephen/Argyle next week, while Fertile-Beltrami (0-2) visits Underwood.
