Bagley, MN — The Fertile-Beltrami Falcons escaped with a gritty 3-1 win over the Bagley Flyers on Thursday night, improving their record to 11-1 on the season.

The first set was tight all the way to the very end as the lead for either team never grew to be any larger then four points. Fertile-Beltrami seemed to have the opener in hand leading 23-19 late but Bagley would rally scoring 7 of the final 8 points to take the first set 26-24. Fertile-Beltrami would bounce back in set two but not without some adversity. The Falcons would find themselves down 10-5 but would go on a 12-0 run to take a 17-10 lead and eventually the set 25-18. The third set would play nearly identical as the first. Back and forth, slim leads, long rallies and the end result would be the same score but this time favoring Fertile-Beltrami 26-24 to take a 2-1 lead. In the fourth, Fertile-Beltrami would go down early 4-0 and wouldn’t take their first lead until 8-7. The lead would change hands a few times from there until Fertile-Beltrami would take the lead at 11-10 and wouldn’t let it go after that winning the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.

With the win, Fertile-Beltrami has now won nine in a row and will play in a tournament this weekend in Barnesville. The loss for Bagley snaps their five game winning streak as the Flyers fall to 7-9 on the season and will play at Red Lake County Central next Monday.
