Fertile-Beltrami vs. Ogilvie

Grand Rapids, MN — The Fertile-Beltrami Falcons secured their spot in the Minnesota State 9-Man Semifinal Game next week after their 22-6 victory over the Ogilvie Lions on Friday night in Grand Rapids.

Temperatures were cold but the snowfall stayed away with the exception of a few flurries in this hard hitting affair. Ogilvie got the opening possession of the game, gashing the Falcons for large chunks of yards on the ground. The Lions pulled off a fake punt on their first 4th down of the evening to extend the drive but it would eventually stall out on the Fertile-Beltrami 35 yard line resulting in a turnover on downs. Fertile-Betlrami would then punt the football away on the ensuing drive but on defense, Caiden Swenby came up with a sliding interception that set up a 43 yard touchdown pass from Swenby to Isaiah Wright. Ogilivie would then again turn the football over, this time coughing it up on a lost fumble and Fertile-Beltrami took advantage scoring on another touchdown pass from Swenby but this one from nine yards out to Derek Sorenson. Both two point conversion attempts were successful as Fertile-Beltrami took a 16-0 lead into the half.

Ogilivie would cut the lead to 10 with a three yard touchdown run by Hunter Kenyon to start their second half but they could never manage to get any closer thanks to penalties and three more second half turnovers. The Lions would commit a total 5 turnovers on the game and eventually fall to Fertile-Beltrami 22-6. The Falcons remain undefeated at 11-0 and will play in the State 9-Man Semifinal Round next Thursday at 1 pm against Spring Grove High School at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
