Fertile-Beltrami vs. Stephen-Argyle

Thief River Falls, MN — The Stephen/Argyle Storm defeated the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons 53-49 on Wednesday night to advance to the Section 8A Boys Basketball Championship.

The first half was tough sledding for both team. The Storm scored the first six points of the game but it was an offensive struggle for both. Neither team could find a sold rhythm and at the free throw line both squads were right around 50%. The Storm held a 12 point lead in the first half, which was their largest lead of the game. Fertile-Beltrami was in danger of going down double digits at the break but Senior Caleb Sather hit a 3-pointer to make it 27-20 at half.

In the second half the lack of offensive rhythm continued. Fertile-Beltrami was missing shots right at the rim and Stephen./Argyle couldn’t get quality looks. But the Storm were able to make just enough shots to hold onto the lead. That lead was wiped away when Fertile-Beltrami went on a 10-0 run to lead 44-40. The all Senior starting lineup for Stephen/Argyle never flinched matching with a 6-0 burst to take the lead back. The lead swung once more to Fertile-Beltrami but Stephen/Argyle took the lead for go at 48-47 and put the final touches on the win after securing offensive rebounds off of missed free throws to bleed out the clock. The Storm won 53-49.

The Storm will now take on the Red Lake County Rebels for the Section Championship on Friday night.
