Fosston at Ada-Borup-West

Braden Bueng’s 2-run single with 2 out in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Ada-Borup-West a come-from-behind 11-10 victory over Fosston Tuesday at Tony Sipe Field.

The Cougars never led until Bueng’s game-winning hit.

Fosston jumped to a 3-0 first inning lead with 3 walks, an error and a single.  Ada-Borup-West replied with a run in the bottom of the first.  The Greyhounds added single runs in the second and third innings for a 5-1 advantage.  Then ABW scored 3 runs in the third on 3 walks, 2 errors, a strikeout with a wild pitch that allowed the batter to reach base, plus another wild pitch to make the score 5-4 after 3 innings.

Fosston responded with 2 runs in the top of the fourth on rbi hits by Mitchell Mulry  and Tucker Djerness to raise the Greyhounds’ lead to 7-4.  Back came the Cougars when Austin McCraven doubled in one run and Connor Nelson singled in two more to tie the game at 7.

Then in the fifth, Fosston regained the lead with 3 more runs; Tanner Vig had a sacrifice fly and Mulry a 2-run double to make it a 10-7 game.

In the sixth inning, Ada-Borup-West cut the deficit to 10-9 on an Ames Fassino sacrifice fly and an infield single by Grant Kuball.  Then in the seventh, the Cougars had a runner on first with 2 out.  Fassino reached on an infield single, Nelson walked to load the bases, then Bueng delivered a 2-run single to score the tying and winning runs.

Austin McCraven got the victory in relief (2-0), going 3 1/3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 3 runs (0 earned), with a walk and 5 strikeouts.  Braeden Bueng started for the Cougars, going 3 2/3 innings, with 4 hits, 7 runs (5 earned), 7 walks, 2 wild pitches and 3 strikeouts.

Jakob Rudie took the loss for Fosston, pitching 2 innings, allowing 5 hits, 4 runs (2 earned), 2 walks, 2 wild pitches, 3 strikeouts and a hit batter.  Tanner Vig started, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 7 runs (2 earned), 5 walks, 4 wild pitches, a hit batter and 2 strikeouts.

Ada-Borup-West improves to 4-0 on the season.  The Cougars play at Thompson on Thursday.

Fosston is now 2-2 for the year; the Greyhounds host Bagley on Friday.
