Fosston at Bagley

Bagley, MN — The Fosston Greyhounds volleyball team turned in a dominant performance on Thursday night, sweeping the Bagley Flyers in straight sets, 3-0.

Greyhounds Head Coach Meghan Palubicki wanted to see her team come out with energy and establish control early, and Fosston did exactly that. The Greyhounds raced out to a 5-0 lead, forcing the Flyers to burn an early timeout in an attempt to regroup. The break did little to slow Fosston’s momentum. The Greyhounds responded with an 8-3 run to build a commanding 13-3 advantage and firmly take control of the opening set. Bagley struggled to find any rhythm offensively, while Fosston continued to apply pressure from the service line and at the net. The Greyhounds cruised the rest of the way, claiming the first set 25-9.

The second set followed a similar script. Fosston quickly built a 10-3 lead and never looked back. The Greyhounds pieced together several scoring runs throughout the set, keeping the Flyers from mounting any sort of comeback effort. With consistent play in all phases, Fosston rolled to a 25-11 victory and moved within one set of completing the sweep.

The Flyers finally found some life in the third set, thanks in large part to freshman Natalee Hoie. Hoie recorded all three of her kills on the night in the set and helped spark Bagley to an early 7-1 lead. Despite the deficit, Fosston remained composed and never used a timeout. The Greyhounds slowly chipped away at the lead, eventually pulling even before taking their first lead of the set at 14-13. The teams exchanged points over the next several rallies, but Fosston seized control for good at 17-16. From there, the Greyhounds finished off the set scoring eight of the final nine points to close out a 25-17 set victory and complete the sweep.

With the win, Fosston improves to 11-4 on the season and will compete in a tournament in Perham this weekend. Bagley falls to 12-6 and will look to bounce back when the Flyers travel to Warroad on Monday
