Fosston vs. Cass Lake-Bena

The Fosston Greyhounds jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back as they defeated the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers 53-39 to win the East Sub-Section 8A championship in Thief River Falls. The Greyhounds held the Panthers scoreless for the first 3:15 of the game and in the meantime had built their 11-0 lead. Katelyn Vesledahl led Fosston with 20 points and 9 rebounds as the Greyhounds won their 11th straight game and improved to 24-3 overall. Kinsley Duppong hit three 3 pointers for Fosston and scored her 1,000th career point with a three pointer in the first half. Duppong ended up with 13 points while Lexi Mahlen added 11 points and 7 boards for Fosston. Gabrielle Fineday scored 18 points and Alexiah LaRose added 15 points for Cass Lake-Bena as the Panthers end their season at 17-12. It was the second win for Fosston over Cass Lake-Bena with the Greyhounds winning at Cass Lake 64-51 on February 21st. The Panthers did cut the deficit to ten at 37-27 in the second half but that would be as close as they would get. The Greyhounds will now play the Badger/Greenbush-Middle River Gators for the Section 8A championship on Friday, March 10th in Thief River Falls (7:00 pm on 96.7 FM and Your Live Event). The Greyhounds defeated the Gators 55-41 in Fosston on January 17th. That’s the last game the Gators have lost as they enter the Section 8A championship game with an overall record of 25-3 and a 15 game winning streak. The Gators defeated Goodridge/Grygla 53-30 to win the West Sub-Section 8A championship Tuesday night.
