The Thompson Tommies hosted the Grand Forks Central Knights in a ND girls basketball Division AA/Division A crossover matchup, Saturday. The Tommies were never in trouble, toppling the Knights, 65-35.
Thompson scored the first nine points of the game, part of a 16-2 run out of the gate, leading 23-7 at the end of the first quarter. They would outscore GFC the next two quarters as well, leading 40-15 at the half and 58-25 at the end of the third quarter. The thirty-point victory is the second straight game this season the Tommies have defeated their opponent by at least thirty points.
Kya Hurst led the Tommies with a double-double 19 points and ten rebounds. Jordyn Tozer and Addison Sage also reached double figures with thirteen and ten points respectively. All five starters scored at least six points, and nine total Tommies found the scorebook. Lauren and Jacie Reardon led the Knights with a combined 27 of the team’s 35 points.
The Tommies improve to 8-2 with the victory and will host the defending ND Division A state champions, Devils Lake, in a Region Two showdown on Monday. The Knights fall to 2-8 with the loss and will kick off the second half of the six-game road test at Fargo South on Tuesday.
