A three Touchdown second quarter spurred the Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros to a 25-0 win over the rival MayPort-C-G Patriots in both teams’ season openers. The game was scoreless after a first quarter that saw each team with just one possession on offense. Burros runningback Landon Olson then started the scoring with a 12-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter for a 7-0 lead. After a Patriot 3-and-out the Burros marched 71 yards and ended the drive with a Tyson Leshuk 4-yard QB scramble for the 13-0 advantage. On the next Patriot possession Kyle Haffley intercepted a pass and returned it well into Patriot territory to set up a bruising 22-yard touchdown run for Olson and a 19-0 halftime lead for the Burros. The second half had the teams trading stalled drives and turnovers as the score held until a Kaden Kozojed 5-yard plunge with 90 seconds left in the game capped off the scoring. The Burros start their season 1-0 and will host the Lisbon Broncos (1-0) next Friday night. MayPort-C-G falls to 0-1 and will have a bye this next week.
