BSB Thompson 4, Hillsboro/Central Valley 3

Eli Gemmill pitched 5 innings, scored a run and drove in a run as Thompson defeated Hillsboro/Central Valley 4-3 Tuesday in Thompson…handing the Burros their first loss in Region 2B baseball.

Thompson (5-3, 3-2 in 2B) opened the scoring in the second inning on Dex Avdem’s 2-run single.  HCV (4-2, 4-1) got a run back in the third on Bryce Miller’s rbi double.

In the fourth inning, Thompson added to their lead on Gemmill’s run-scoring single.  Kaden Loiland followed with a single, then Jeromy Tyce grounded to short.  Loiland was forced at second and the throw to first was bobbled, which allowed Gemmill to score and give the Tommies a 4-1 lead.

Then in the fifth inning, HCV’s Chase Haffley led off with a walk and then scored on Miller’s double.  Bryce Miller was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 rbi.  After the next two Burros were retired, Hunter Kleckner grounded to third and the throw to first pulled the first baseman off the bag, allowing Miller to score and make it a 4-3 game.

Jeromy Tyce came in to pitch the sixth inning and pitched 2 scoreless innings to get a save.  Tyce struck out 4 and allowed just one baserunner and that was on an error.

Miller took the loss for HCV (4-2, 4-1).  In 6 innings, he allowed 7 hits, 4 runs (2 earned), 4 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Kaden Loiland was 3 for 4 for Thompson.

HCV plays a doubleheader at home against Larimore on Thursday.  Thompson hosts Nelson County/Midkota on Thursday.
