The Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros scored a late fourth-quarter touchdown to go ahead, then say their defense shut down the Thompson Tommies attempt to tie the game for the 28-20 road win. Hillsboro/Central Valley scored on their first drive of the game with a Carson Kozojed 2-yard run and went ahead 14-0 after Chase Haffley hauled in a tipped pass for a 44-yard Touchdown reception. After that score the Tommies found their first half offense with a 65-yard drive ending in a Charlie Yon 1-yard Touchdown run to go into halftime trailing the Burros 14-8. Looking to tie the game on the opening drive of the second half, the Tommie attempt was cut short from a Tyson Leshuk interception – the only turnover by either team in the game – That lead to the Burros driving for another Touchdown catch from Chase Haffley, this one from 23-yards, and the 20-8 lead. Thompson responded to and would have back to back scoring drives with a Yon 15-yard catch and 3-yard run being the scoring plays that tied the game at 20-20 with 7:19 remaining in te fourth quarter. The Burros next drive almost stalled out before a jump-ball pass was hauled in by Chase Haffley giving the Burros a first down and leading to the go-ahead touchdown from Sawyer Owens on a 1-yard run with 2:21 remaining. The Burro defense secured the win with a 4th-down stop on the Tommies drive to tie the game, allowing Hillsboro/Central Valley to kneel out the clock to preserve the victory. Hillsboro/Central Valley starts the year 2-0 and begins Region 1 play next week at Oakes. Thompson drops to 1-1 on the year at begins their Region 2 schedule next week by hosting Turtle Mountain.
