Recap

The Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros defense took the ball away, while the Burro offense kept it away from the Valley City Hi-Liners in a 36-0 victory Friday night.

The Burro defense sparked the first score of the game when Sebastian Gaytan tipped a pass to himself for the first of four Burro interceptions on the night. A few plays later, Bryce Miller scored from four yards out to give Hillsboro/Central Valley an 8-0 lead.

The Burros’ defense extended the lead before halftime with their second interception of the game. Jacob Miller picked off a pass and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown, sending the Burros into halftime with a 14-0 advantage.

Valley City opened the second half by receiving the kickoff and finding some success through the air, putting together several big passing plays. However, the Burros came up with their third interception of the game to turn the ball back over to the offense.

Hillsboro/Central Valley then put together an 85-yard drive, capped by Bryce Miller’s second rushing touchdown of the night.

The Burros stole another possession on the ensuing kickoff when a high kick was not cleanly fielded, allowing Hillsboro/Central Valley’s special teams to recover the ball.

While the Burro offense was unable to score on the ensuing possession, it continued to keep the ball and control the game. Hillsboro/Central Valley held possession for roughly 35 of the game’s 48 minutes.

The Burro defense secured its fourth takeaway of the game when Brayden Bucholz came up with an interception. Jackson Kleckner and Bucholz then each added rushing touchdowns to push the Burros to the 36-0 final.

Hillsboro/Central Valley and Valley City both sit at 1-5 overall and 1-3 in Region 1 play. The Burros will travel to Sargent County next week, while the Hi-Liners will host Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm.
