A slow start was coupled with a strong finish for the Aitkin Gobblers Girls Basketball team collecting their third straight win, defeating Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars 55-41 Friday night.

The Jaguars came out firing with a 10-2 advantage before Aitkin was able to pull ahead with some help from Abby Palm’s 11 points in the first half. The Gobblers eventual lead by as much as 13 points but the Jags cut the deficit down in the final seconds of the half to 26-24.

Aitkin came in the second half with a 6-1 run while also forcing foul trouble to Hinckley-Finlayson. The Gobblers were unable to capitalize at the free throw line, hitting on just 7-of-25, but still were able to pull away late with Abby Palm finishing with 20 points to lead all scorers. Reese Hartl lead the Jags with 16 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

Aitkin has now won three-in-a-row to improve to 4-2 as they hit the road to face Ogilvie on Tuesday. Hinckley-Finlayson falls to 1-6 overall with 6-consecuvtive losses with a road game against Rush City Tuesday.
