Clearbrook, MN — The Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears defeated the Northome/Kelliher Mustangs 3-1 on Wednesday night to advance in the Section 8A Volleyball Tournament.

The first set would belong to Northome/Kelliher 25-21 after Clearbrook-Gonvick didn’t start with their typical energy as a team and the Mustangs took advantage to go up 1-0. In set two, Clearbrook-Gonvick would find that energy after taking an early 12-5 lead and eventually their largest lead of the night 21-11. Northome/Kelliher would make a late push cutting the deficit to single digits but the Bears would eventually close out the set 25-20. In set three, points were back and forth early with an 8-8 tie. Clearbrook-Gonvick would take a 9-8 lead and despite it being tight the rest of the way, the Bears would hold an advantage for the rest of the set and eventually win 25-21. The fourth and final set would be close throughout, but it always felt as though Clearbrook-Gonvick was in control and they were, winning 25-21 and winning the match 3-1.

With the win Clearbrook-Gonvick is now 16-8 on the season and will play at Ada-Borup-West on Friday (106.5 FM KRJB & YourLiveEvent.com). Northome/Kelliher ends their season with an overall record of 12-15 and will graduate three seniors, Lexi Herron, Cloey Buentemier, and Joy Adegun.
