Kelliher/Northome vs. Warren-Alvarado-Oslo

Senior Kate Thayer scored 44 points as the Kelliher/Northome Mustangs advanced to their second straight Section 8A championship game with a 66-55 win over the Warren-Alvarado-Oslo Ponies in Thief River Falls. The Mustangs trailed 32-28 at halftime but scored the first six points in the second half to take a 34-32 lead. The Mustangs took the lead for good at 38-37. The Ponies turned the ball over 33 times compared to 22 turnovers for Kelliher/Northome. Sophomore Macey Boe led the Ponies with 15 points as they end their season with an overall record of 25-4. The Ponies won 18 of their last 20 games and both loses came against Kelliher/Northome (62-36 at Bemidji State on February 5th). Kenley Marquis added 13 points with Miela Pierce scoring 11 points and Annie Peterson 10 points for W-A-O. Kylee Binkley scored 8 points for the Mustangs as they improve to 28-1 overall with the one loss coming against the number one ranked Mountain Iron-Buhl Rangers 100-90. Kelliher/Northme will play for the Section 8A championship on Friday, March 6th in Thief River Falls (7:00 pm on 96.7 FM, Your Live Event and Garden Valley TV). Twelve of Thayer’s 44 points came at the free throw line as the Mustangs picked up their 21st straight win.
