The defending Division A Champion and pre-season ranked #1 team in North Dakota was pushed to overtime in the season opener on the road, but were able to overcome and earn their first win of the season, 70-68 over Hillsboro Central Valley on Tuesday night. The Kindred Vikings trailed by three points at halftime 30-27, then outscored Hillsboro Central Valley 21-15 in the third quarter, and would have a lead of 9 points in the fourth quarter before a furious rally by the Burros to not only tie the game, but take the lead 59-58 with just over a minute to play in regulation. The game would be tied at 59 going to overtime, then a back and fourth battle ensued, with Kindred taking a 70-68 lead with 10 seconds to play after a pair of free throws, and the Burros had two chances to win in the final seconds, but the shots didn’t fall, and the Vikings win 70-68 in overtime.
