Kittson County Central at Ada-Borup-West

A rare afternoon game in the first ever meeting between these two teams did not disappoint the sparse crowd at Ada-Borup-West Monday.  Ada-Borup-West held off the Kittson County Central ( KCC ) Bearcats, 79-76 with Brianne Myers and Morgan Engel each scoring 27 points to offset the Bearcats Greta Kuznia’s game high 35 point effort.  Ada-Borup-West led the majority of the game, with three lead changes early, a tie at 15-15, the Cougars managed to grow a seven point lead in the first half and hold a 34-31 margin at halftime. ( Myers had 18 in the first half)  The Cougars had only two turnovers in the first half . The second half saw the two teams tied at 38-38, 40-40 before a Bearcat 6-0 run helped them to a six point lead, 48-42, which was their largest lead.  Ada-Borup-West responded with a 10-0 run to take the lead, eventually leading 65-57 for the game’s largest lead of eight points with over four minutes remaining.    The two teams continued exchanging field goals, including four 3-point field goals by Kuznia, with the Cougars adding free throws and field goals down the stretch.  A big advantage was the Cougars rebounding, a plus 12 on the rebounds,  32-20,  including 19-5 in the second half controlling the glass.   There were five offensive rebounds which led to points for the Cougars in their regaining the lead and increasing the margin of lead in the game’s final 8 minutes.   Ada-Borup-West is now 6-4 with an important south half Pine To Prairie conference game hosting Park Christian Tuesday before playing another key conference game Thursday at Lake Park Audubon.   KCC is now 9-4 with games scheduled against Warroad and BGMR Thursday and Friday.
