Fosston Greyhounds 3 vs. Lake Park-Audubon Raiders 2
(30-28, 25-15, 24-26, 14-25, 15-10)

Fosston, MN — The Fosston Greyhounds nearly let win number 14 slip away Tuesday night, but they held on to defeat the Lake Park-Audubon Raiders in a thrilling five-set match, 3-2.

The opening set featured back-and-forth action through much of the game, with neither team able to gain a significant advantage early. Fosston eventually created some separation, building a 24-18 lead and appearing ready to put the set away. Lake Park-Audubon, however, refused to go quietly, rattling off six consecutive points to even the score at 24-24. The Greyhounds had three opportunities to close out the set during extra points and finally succeeded, earning a hard-fought 30-28 victory.

Fosston carried that momentum into the second set, scoring the first four points and keeping the Raiders at arm’s length throughout. The Greyhounds put the finishing touches on the set with a dominant 7-1 run, securing a 25-15 win and taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

Facing elimination, the Raiders delivered when they needed to most in the third set. Neither side led by more than four points, with Lake Park-Audubon taking a 23-19 advantage late. Fosston answered with a surge of its own, scoring four straight points to tie the set at 23-23. The Raiders remained composed down the stretch, however, and escaped with a 26-24 win to extend the match.

Set four belonged to one player: KENNEDY BERINGER.

The Raiders’ senior outside hitter was nearly unstoppable, recording nine of her match high 29 kills in the frame. Fosston had no answer for Beringer’s attack as Lake Park-Audubon repeatedly turned to its star hitter. She helped lead the Raiders to a decisive 25-14 victory, forcing a winner-take-all fifth set.

The intense battle continued into the final set, with the score tied 8-8 midway through. Fosston responded by scoring the next three points to take an 11-8 lead, and the Greyhounds never surrendered the advantage. With Fosston on the verge of sealing the match, senior Abi Seed slammed the door shut, delivering back-to-back emphatic blocks on Kennedy Beringer and Ava Poegel. The Greyhounds claimed the fifth set 15-10 and secured the match victory, 3-2.

Fosston improves to 14-6 on the season and will compete in a tournament in Fergus Falls on Thursday. Lake Park-Audubon falls to 11-10 and will return to action next Monday when the Raiders host the Bagley Flyers.
