Mike Gapp rushed 32 times for 215 yards and three touchdowns as Polk County West defeated Lake Park-Audubon 34-20 Friday night in Climax.

The Thunder also got 111 rushing yards and a touchdown from John Speicher (spiker).  He also returned the second half kickoff to the LPA 28 that set up the second of Gapp’s three TDs.

PCW’s first offensive series began on their one yard line after a punt.  Speicher finished the nine play, 99 yard drive with a 60 yard burst for a touchdown.  The Thunder led 6-0.

Lake Park-Audubon responded on the first play of the second quarter as Gabe Harris scored from four yards out.  The game was tied at six after the run for the two point conversion failed.

Late in the second quarter, PCW’s Greg Downs blocked a punt and the Thunder took over at the Raider 15 yard line.  Two plays later, Gapp scored to give PCW a 12-6 lead at halftime.

After Speicher’s kickoff return gave the Thunder the ball at the LPA 28, Gapp scored three plays later from ten yards out to give PCW an 18-6 lead.

Lake Park-Audubon responded as Drew Harris scored on a 15 yard run and added a two point conversion to put the Raiders within four at 18-14.

Then the Thunder drove 69 yards in eight plays as Gapp scored his third touchdown of the night and added a two point conversion to make it 26-14 Thunder after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, freshman Jace Motl scored a touchdown from five yards out.  Gapp’s two point conversion made it 34-14, PCW with 8:47 to play.

The Raiders came back with Luca Beske throwing a ten yard scoring pass to Drew Harris.  The try for conversion failed, making it 34-20 with 6:15 to play.

LPA then recovered an onside kick at the Thunder 49 yard line.  But three plays later, Will Zavoral intercepted a Beske pass and the Thunder ran out the clock.

Beske completed 12 of 20 passes for 148 yards with one touchdown and one interception.  Drew Harris ran 16 times for 69 yards and two touchdowns and caught six passes for 79 yards and a score.

Polk County West is now 3-3 on the season; the Thunder travel to Menahga next Friday.

Lake Park-Audubon (2-4) has its homecoming game next Friday against Mahnomen-Waubun.
