Recap

The Thompson Tommies hosted the #4 Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich Cardinals in a Class A Region Two football showdown Friday night. The fourth ranked Cardinals showed why they have the 2nd best scoring differential in Class A, staying undefeated with a 40-2 victory over the Tommies.

The Cardinals wasted no time getting into the end zone, turning their first possession into a touchdown as quarterback Rayce Worley connected with Mason Romfo for six. With an extra point, the Cardinals led 7-0 and would never relinquish the lead. After a wacky remainder of the first quarter, which saw a combined two interceptions, a fumble, and an intentional grounding from Worley in the end zone leading to Thompson’s only two points of the half, the Cardinals got back on track. Romfo reached the end zone two more times in the first half with rushing scores of ten and two yards. Extra points added to each one made it 21-2 Thompson at the half.

The Cardinals never looked back, scoring all 19 points in the second half. Romfo added two more touchdowns, with receptions of 16 and 20 yards. Miles Fincher also reached the end zone for the Cardinals on a 15 yard scamper.

With the win, Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich improves to 8-0 (7-0), setting up a Region Two regular season championship clash with Carrington Thursday in Carrington. Thompson falls to 4-4 (3-4) with the loss. The Tommies will close out regular season play next Friday at Cavalier. Cavalier defeated Harvey-Wells County to officially eliminate Thompson from postseason contention.
