The Thompson Tommies hosted the Langdon Area-Munich Cardinals in Division A/B Boys Basketball action. The Division A #5 Tommies were hardly in trouble, as they toppled the Cardinals, 57-39.
The Tommies used a 16-3 run in the first quarter to take a 17-7 lead at the end of the first eight minutes. Both teams got hot from beyond the arc in the second quarter with a combined seven three-pointers. The Tommies outscored the Cardinals 19-13 in that second quarter to take a 36-20 lead into the halftime break. Both teams shot evenly in the second half, with Thompson outscoring the Cardinals, 21-19 over the final two quarters.
Gavin Krogstad led the Tommies with 17 points, while Gavin Oster added eleven off the bench. Drew Odenbach also nearly reached a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds. Maddux Stremick led the Cardinals off the bench with eleven points and five rebounds. The Tommies outrebounded the Cardinals as a team, 33-17. Thompson also outshot Langdon Area from the field, 45%-27%.
With the win, Thompson moves to 9-3 overall while Langdon Area-Munich drops to 6-5. Both teams host big region matchups on Friday as the Tommies welcome Four Winds-Minnewaukan to Thompson while the Cardinals welcome North Border to Langdon.
